Makoto Yukimura’s acclaimed manga series, Vinland Saga, recently celebrated its 19th anniversary on April 13, 2024. To commemorate this milestone, the author took to his Twitter account to share a special message with fans. In his tweet, Yukimura humorously admitted that he had underestimated the length of the story when he first started writing it. Originally, he had envisioned completing the series within a ten-year timeframe. However, as time went on, the narrative expanded far beyond his initial expectations, leading to a prolonged journey for both the characters and the readers.

Despite the unforeseen length of the series, the mangaka reassured fans that the conclusion is drawing near. “But fear not, the final chapter is not too far away. Even for a slow writer like me, there will come a time when the story reaches its conclusion. It may be late, but eventually, one must finish their work,” he added.

Vinland Saga: A Captivating Historical Manga
Vinland Saga is a Japanese historical manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. The manga is published by Kodansha and initially serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine, a magazine targeted towards young boys. Later, it moved to Monthly Afternoon, a monthly manga magazine aimed at young adult men. To date, the series has been collected into 27 tankobon volumes, with over 7 million copies in circulation as of August 2022.
The manga has received critical acclaim and numerous accolades. In 2009, Vinland Saga won the Grand Prize at the 13th Japan Media Arts Festival. Additionally, it was awarded the 36th Kodansha Manga Award for Best General Manga in 2012.
