Renowned manga artist Machiko Kyō, known for her work on ‘Cocoon,’ is set to release a new manga titled ‘Orizuru.’ The manga will debut in the upcoming issue of Akita Shoten’s Elegance Eve magazine on March 26.

Kyō gained recognition for her manga ‘Cocoon,’ published in 2010, 65 years after the end of World War II. The manga has inspired an anime adaptation scheduled to air on NHK in the summer of 2025. Hitomi Tateno, a veteran Studio Ghibli animator, will serve as the animation producer, with the studio Sasayuri handling the production.
In 2013, Kyō published the manga ‘Mitsuami no Kami-sama’ in Shueisha’s now-defunct Jump X magazine. The manga received critical acclaim and won an award in the 18th Annual Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize in March 2014. The success of the manga also led to the creation of the 28-minute short anime film ‘Pigtails’ by Production I.G.
