Kimi ni Todoke Creator Karuho Shiina Returns with New Manga After 18 Years
Japanese manga creator Karuho Shiina is set to launch a brand-new manga titled Toppū to Beat (Blast of Wind and Beat) in the April issue of Bessatsu Margaret magazine. This new series marks Shiina’s first manga in 18 years since the debut of Kimi ni Todoke in 2006.

Japanese manga creator Karuho Shiina, known for her popular series Kimi ni Todoke – From Me to You, is set to launch a brand-new manga titled Toppū to Beat (Blast of Wind and Beat) in the April issue of Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine on March 13. This new series marks Shiina’s first manga in 18 years since the debut of Kimi ni Todoke in 2006.

Toppū to Beat is set in a small seaside town in Hokkaido and follows the story of a mysterious girl named Nike. Nike reunites with Nemo, a boy who rarely shows his face in class, and this encounter prompts her to embark on a journey of self-discovery. As she unravels the mysteries surrounding her forgotten memories, Nike sets out to rediscover her true self.
Shiina’s latest manga will have a color opening page and will be featured on the front cover of the April issue of Bessatsu Margaret. Notably, this series will be the first time Shiina adopts a completely digital workflow in her manga production.
The Success of Kimi ni Todoke
Kimi ni Todoke, Shiina’s previous work, debuted in Bessatsu Margaret in 2006 and concluded in November 2017. The manga garnered immense popularity, selling over 36 million copies in Japan, including digital copies. Viz Media publishes the English version of Kimi ni Todoke, with the 30th volume released in December 2018.
The success of Kimi ni Todoke also led to two television anime seasons from 2009 to 2011. NIS America released both seasons on home video, and a live-action film adaptation premiered in Japan in 2010. In March 2023, Netflix debuted a live-action series adaptation. Furthermore, a highly anticipated third season of the anime is scheduled to stream exclusively on Netflix worldwide in 2024.
