Manga creator Keigo Shinzō recently announced on his Twitter account that his manga series, Hirayasumi, will be going on hiatus until next year. Shinzō clarified that he is not facing any health issues but requires additional time to draw the manga in a manner that satisfies him without any regrets. Despite the hiatus, he assured fans that he will continue drawing almost every day until the manga resumes.

Hirayasumi, licensed by Viz Media, is set to be released in the summer of 2024. The manga follows the story of Hiroto, who inherits a house from a grumpy granny and forms an unlikely friendship with her. However, his peaceful life is put to the test when his struggling art student cousin moves in.

Recognition and Success of Hirayasumi Manga

The manga was initially launched in April 2021 in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine. As of August 30, 2023, six compiled volumes have been published. Hirayasumi gained recognition, as it was nominated for the 15th Manga Taisho awards in January 2022 and ranked 18th in the 2023 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook in December 2022. Additionally, it was nominated for the 27th Annual Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in February of this year.

Keigo Shinzō’s Other Works

In addition to Hirayasumi, Keigo Shinzō’s Holiday Junction collection of short manga has also been licensed by Denpa. The book, which contains seven one-shot manga, was released in Japan in July 2016.

The Anticipation for Hirayasumi’s Return

Fans of Hirayasumi will have to patiently wait until next year for the manga to resume. In the meantime, they can look forward to the summer of 2024 when Viz Media will begin releasing the series.
