Meguri’s manga adaptation of Keiso’s Ishura light novel series will conclude its first arc, corresponding to the initial novel ‘The New Demon King War,’ on May 7, as revealed in the April issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine. The manga will go on hiatus next month.

The Ishura series takes place in a world where a group of demigods who possess the power to vanquish him have taken over. These demigods include a master fencer with extraordinary perception, a swift lancer capable of breaking the sound barrier, a rogue wyvern skilled in wielding three legendary weapons simultaneously, an all-powerful wizard capable of materializing thoughts, and an angelic assassin who deals instant death. Each of these champions aspires to become the ‘One True Hero’ and faces formidable foes, sparking conflicts along the way. Thus, the battle to determine the mightiest of them all commences.
The manga adaptation of Ishura, illustrated by Meguri, was launched in Monthly Shonen Magazine in March 2021. Kodansha has released three compiled volumes of the manga, with the third volume published in December 2023.
The Popularity and Success of Ishura Light Novel Series
The original Ishura light novel series began its serialization on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō and Kakuyomu websites in 2017. Kadokawa then started publishing the series in print in September 2019. The novels gained immense popularity and garnered the most votes ever recorded for a light novel series in the tankōbon, novel, and new title categories of the 2021 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (This Light Novel Is Amazing!) guidebook.
Moreover, Ishura has been adapted into a television anime series that premiered on January 3 and is currently ongoing. The anime is exclusively streaming on Disney+ worldwide, with North American viewers able to watch it on Hulu.
