The original Captain Tsubasa manga, spanning 37 volumes, was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1981 to 1988. It became a global sensation, inspiring multiple adaptations such as television anime series, films, OVAs, and even a stage play. The manga has been translated into approximately 20 countries.

The story of Captain Tsubasa revolves around Tsubasa Ōzora, an 11-year-old boy with a passion for soccer. Recognized for his exceptional skills by his coach Roberto, Tsubasa embarks on a journey to Brazil to train for the World Cup.

Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun Finals – A New Arc

The newly launched Captain Tsubasa World website will release the first chapter of the new arc, titled Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun Finals. This new arc should not be confused with the previous Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun The Final arc. Fans can expect 27 pages of captivating storyboards.

To commemorate the release of the 20th and final volume of Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun, as well as the third and final volume of Captain Tsubasa Memories 4: Saikyō! Meiwa FC Densetsu, the manga’s creator, Youichi Takahashi, will hold an autograph session at the Books Kinokuniya chain’s Shinjuku Main Store in Tokyo on June 8. Additionally, an exhibition showcasing the original manga art will be held at Tokyo’s Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store during the summer.

Youichi Takahashi’s Retirement and Decision to Conclude the Serialization

Youichi Takahashi, the creator of Captain Tsubasa, has announced his retirement from serializing the long-running franchise. After contemplating the future of the manga for several years, Takahashi realized that it might take over 40 years to complete the story. Instead of pushing his physical limits, he made the difficult decision to conclude the serialization.

Takahashi, who is over 60 years old, is in good health but faces challenges due to presbyopia, affecting his eyesight and causing dizziness. Other factors influencing his decision include the impact of COVID-19 on the staff structure, the switch to digital drawing methods, and the passing of Shinji Mizushima, the creator of the Dokaben baseball manga, in January 2022.

Legacy of Captain Tsubasa and Future Prospects

The Captain Tsubasa manga has left a lasting legacy in the world of soccer manga and anime. Its global popularity and influence are undeniable, and it continues to captivate fans around the world.

Although Youichi Takahashi is retiring as a manga creator, he assures fans that the story of Captain Tsubasa is far from over. The continuation of the manga in storyboard form on the Captain Tsubasa World website allows for the story to live on and for fans to experience the captivating world of Captain Tsubasa.

With the release of the new arc, Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun Finals, fans can look forward to more exciting soccer action and the continued journey of Tsubasa Ōzora as he pursues his dreams on the field.
