The official website for the anime film BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi- has released a new promotional video titled ‘Awakening,’ focusing on the character Nagi, the lazy genius. This film serves as a spinoff of the popular Blue Lock soccer manga created by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura. Scheduled to open in Japan on April 19, the film will also have a North American release on June 28.

The ‘Awakening’ video showcases Nagi, a talented yet indolent individual, offering a glimpse into his character and abilities. With its captivating visuals and intense moments, the video builds anticipation for the film’s release.
BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi- will not only feature the main film but also include four mini-anime episodes called ‘BLUELOCK Additional Time!’ These mini-episodes will be shown after the credits during the first four weeks of the film’s screening, with a different episode being featured each week. Additionally, the film will be screened in various formats, including IMAX, MX4D, and 4DX.
Fans in North America will also have the opportunity to watch the film in theaters, as Crunchyroll plans to screen it with both English subtitles and an English dub on June 28.
The cast for BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi- includes Nobunaga Shimazaki as Seishirō Nagi, Yūma Uchida as Reo Mikage, Kazuyuki Okitsu as Zantetsu Tsurugi, Kazuki Ura as Yoichi Isagi, Tasuku Kaito as Meguru Bachira, Yūki Ono as Rensuke Kunigami, Sōma Saitō as Hyōma Chigiri, Kōki Uchiyama as Rin Itoshi, Hiroshi Kamiya as Jinpachi Ego, and Subaru Kimura as Ryō Nameoka.
The film is directed by Shunsuke Ishikawa, who served as the assistant director for the Blue Lock television anime. Taku Kishimoto, known for his work on series like Haikyu!! and Silver Spoon, is supervising and writing the series scripts. The original manga’s creator, Muneyuki Kaneshiro, is overseeing the story, while Yūsuke Nomura is credited as the character designer. Jun Murayama is responsible for composing the music.
The theme song for the film, titled ‘Stormy,’ is performed by Nissy and SKY-HI. Nissy, also known as Takahiro Nishijima, is a member of the group AAA and has a solo career under his own name. SKY-HI is the solo project of Mitsuhiro Hidaka, another member of AAA.
BLUELOCK -Episode Nagi- serves as a prequel to the main Blue Lock story, focusing on the character Seishirō Nagi before he enters the Blue Lock facility. The spinoff manga will also be released in print by Kodansha USA Publishing in fall 2024.
The original Blue Lock manga, which follows the journey of Japan’s national soccer team in their search for an exceptional striker, is already available in English digitally and in print.
