The Story of Ashita no Joe
The plot of Ashita no Joe revolves around Joe Yabuki, a troubled youth who resorts to using his fists to solve problems. Despite his lack of manners and discipline, Joe possesses self-taught fighting skills. One day, while wandering through the slums of Doya, Joe finds himself in a fight with a local gang. Despite being outnumbered, he effortlessly defeats them, catching the attention of Danpei Tange, a former boxing coach turned alcoholic. Recognizing Joe’s potential, Danpei offers to train him to become Japan’s greatest boxer.
Initially, Joe dismisses Danpei as a hopeless drunk. However, when the trainer saves his life, Joe agrees to live with him and learn the art of boxing. Joe’s unruly personality proves to be a challenge for his mentor, and he often falls back into his old ways. To succeed in the harsh world of professional boxing, Joe must learn to trust his mentor and master the techniques taught to him. However, the path to becoming a professional boxer is filled with struggles that will test Joe’s determination to the very end.

Ashita no Joe was first serialized by Kodansha in Weekly Shonen Magazine from January 1, 1968, to May 13, 1973. It gained popularity among working-class individuals and college students in Japan during its serialization. The English Release of Ashita no Joe
